This site is mostly about Reading, so here's the lowdown on the mother of all UK festivals

August 24-26: Reading Festival
The Carling Weekend, apparently. Line-ups swap with Leeds. See main page for line-up.
Tickets are £35 a day (no camping) or £80 for the weekend (including camping).

August 24-26: Leeds Festival
The second part of The Carling Weekend. Line-ups swap with Reading.
Ticket prices as Reading.

August 25-26: Glasgow Green
The third part of The Carling Weekend. Just a two-dayer, though. Many of the Reading/Leeds band playing. Tickets are £35 per day or £55 for the two.

MAIN STAGE: Eminem, Marilyn Manson, Queens of the Stone Age, The Cult
BUDWEISER TRUE MUSIC STAGE: Embrace, Mercury Rev, Hobotalk

Feb 23-25: Dedbeat Weekender
Vauxhall Holiday Park, Caister, Norfolk
Poorly-spelt dance event with three rooms. Live acts include Red Snapper, Hefner, Two Lone Swordsmen and DMX Crew. DJ sets from Aphex Twin, Portishead, Psychonauts and Depth Charge. Plus skate park. Weekend tickets £85, which includes self-catering chalet accomodation and entrance to all facilities.

April 6-8: All Tomorrow"s Parties
Camber Sands, East Sussex
"Alternative" festival, curated by Tortoise. Acts include Boards of Canada, Broadcast, Calexico, Cannibal Ox, EL-P (Company Flow), The Ex, ESG, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti and the Positive Force, Mike Ladd, Savath and Savalis, The Sea and Cake, Sun Ra Arkestra, Yo La Tengo and a specially-reformed Television. Costs a whopping £100 (+£5 booking fee) which does at least include chalet accomodation and access to all facilities, but the minimum booking is four tickets...

May 26: Homelands
Matterley Bowl, Winchester, Hants
Dance all-nighter, including sets by Orbital, Pulp, The Orb, Groove Armarda, Josh Wink, Jacques Lu Cont and the "long-awaited" return of the Stereo MCs. Plus DJ sets from Danny Tenaglia, Brandon Block & Alex P and Adam Freeland among the 121 confirmed acts so far.

May 26: Ozzfest 2001
Milton Keynes Bowl
This could be more like it: Black Sabbath, Slipknot, Tool, Papa Roach, Hed(PE), Amen, Disturbed, Raging Speedhorn, Mudvayne, Union Underground and Apartment 26 in the great outdoors.

June 16: Fleadh 2001
Finsbury Park, London
Formerly an Irish-themed event, but there's only so many Irish bands worth seeing, so now has a more general, distinctly AOR flavour. Neil Young, Starsailor, Evan Dando, The Waterboys, Billy Bragg, Glenn Tilbrook, Gary Moore, Teenage Fanclub, Cousteau and Aimee Mann are among this year's attractions.

June 23: Creamfields, Dublin
Dublin Punchestown Racecourse
All-day dance event. Traditionally a sell-out. No acts announced yet, but expect top-name DJs and dance-orientated live acts. Ticket prices not announced yet.

July 7-8: T in the Park
Balado, Kinross
"Eclectic" Scottish two-dayer. Line-up so far:

MAIN STAGE: Stereophonics, David Gray, Placebo, Divine Comedy, Amen, Snow Patrol, My Vitriol, King Adora, Webb Brothers, Cosmic Rough Riders

July 14-15: Essential Festival 2001
NEW VENUE! Hackney Marshes, London
No news of any bands yet, but each of the days will be "themed": A dance day, and a roots day. Tickets go on sale on April 20, priced £35 per day.

July 27: WOMAD
Richfield Avenue, Reading
Family-friendly, world music, arts and dance. Tickets on sale in March at around £65. No bands yet, but unlikely to feature Slipknot...

August 3-5: Guildford live
Stoke Park, Guildford
Music, theatre, crafts and real ale. Last year saw Motorhead on the bill with Rolf Harris. Cheap food, clean toilets. No bands or ticket prices yet.

August 18-19: V2001
Hylands Park, Chelmsford/Weston Park, Staffordshire
Corporate, Virgin-sponsored festival. Very clean. Traditionally musically safe big indie names. Line-ups swap venues.

Red Hot Chilli Peppers,
Weston Park, August 19/Hylands Park, August 18
Coldplay and Texas - joint headliners.

Other confirmed acts are Foo Fighters, Toploader, Starsailor, The Charlatans, Divine Comedy, Doves, David Gray, Faithless, Muse, JJ72, Placebo, Grandaddy and Shed Seven. Tickets on sale from April 21, priced £38.50 for one day, £66 for the weekend, or £76 including camping.


August 25: Creamfields, Liverpool
Old Liverpool Airfield
All-day dance event. Traditionally a 50,000-crowd sell-out. No acts announced yet, but expect the same top-name DJs and dance-orientated live acts as Dublin. Tickets priced at £42.25.
